Full Job Description

HIRING RATE: $17.50/hour Under the general direction of the regular Park Ranger, the gate attendant is responsible for fee collection and is the main point of contact for visitors coming into Bear Creek Lake Park. Attendants must clearly and accurately provide visitors with rules and regulations and any pertinent information relating to the park. The City of Lakewood is currently recruiting variable employees for this position. A variable employee is an at-will employee who works in a seasonal or temporary capacity. Their work schedule is based on business need. This position would be a part-time non benefitted position. Fee collection from park visitors, and entry into computer revenue system. Fee collection includes cash credit cards and checks. Selling annual park passes and making campsite reservations. Balancing of days income receipts. Greeting visitors in a cheerful and courteous manner. Answering questions about the park, its facilities, regulations and programs knowledgeably and dispensing brochures. Handling stressful and emergency situations capably and correctly Performs other duties as assigned. May also be required to perform as an Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) boat inspector and maintain the required state certification. IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS Performs basic maintenance duties as needed or as assigned, including gatehouse cleanup, window washing, restroom cleaning, etc. Accurately logging lost and found items. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS Supervision Received: Receives general supervision from the regular Park Ranger. Supervision Given: None ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) Education: High school education, or course work leading to a degree, in a natural resources related field is preferred. May be required to maintain State of Colorado boat inspection and decontamination certification. Experience: Previous experience in park setting or cashier preferred. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Valid drivers license. Must have a vehicle to drive to and from gatehouse and visitor center. OTHER KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Excellent public relations skills (dealing with complaints). Ability to work with limited supervision in difficult and occasionally stressful situations. Ability to demonstrate leadership skills. Ability to work independently and as a team member. Background check required. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Lifting and Carrying: Pushing and Pulling: Body Positions: Work requires some sitting in the office. Work requires frequent standing and walking. Work requires occasional bending, kneeling, balancing. Administrative work is performed in an office environment, frequently moving about, standing, sitting and bending. Hearing: Must be able to respond to telephone and in-person requests and to communicate via two-way radio. Vision: Uses vision to read written job related information. MENTAL REQUIREMENTS Mathematics: Must have mathematical knowledge for end of shift reports and cash collection. Remembering: Must know and follow proper lifting procedures. Remember rules and regulations, have ability to locate resources. Language Ability: Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with visitors and City staff. Reasoning: Must be able to take direction and follow instruction from supervisor. Must be able to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines. WORK ENVIRONMENT Work is performed frequently in outdoor environment in all temperatures and weather conditions. Uses computer regularly. The city pays the cost of this coverage. Pension Our pension fund is a social security replacement, money purchase plan. Mandatory employee contribution is 11% of gross base salary; city contribution is 13% of gross base salary. Sick Leave Full-time employees earn 8 hours per month. Part-time employees earn 6 hours per month. Vacation Full-time employees with less than five years of service earn 8 hours per month. Part-time employees with less than five years of service earn 6 hours per month. City Holidays Holidays: New Years Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
