Agency Adult Correction Division COO - OPS - Institutions Operations Job Classification Title Correctional Sergeant I (S) Position Number 60072422 Grade NC07 About Us The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Description of Work Salary Range: $35,984 - $62,971 Reporting to the Lieutenant, this position is responsible for the daily operation of an institution and ensures that security is maintained according to divisional policy and procedures. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: - Completing, reviewing, and maintaining time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms. - Accounting for persons and funds to ensure that all assigned equipment is operationally ready. - Handling activities relating to the custody and welfare of offenders. - Working, rotating, and various duty assignments within the defined level of work. - Making decisions regarding the day-to-day operation of the facility and the shift. - Supervising a shift of employees, conducting shift line-up, making shift schedules, and inspecting all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post. - Conducting inspections of offender living areas, medical and kitchen areas, and the facility as a whole to identify possible safety hazards and to ensure operations are being followed by policy. - Reviewing all logs, reports, and required documentation from shift rotations. - Completing investigations, time reports, all required custody reports, shift schedules, and monitoring staff. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Knowledge of facility operations Knowledge of Prisons policy and procedures Necessary Special Qualifications: MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission. This is a full-time position working rotating shifts with State Benefits. Note to Current State Employees: The salary grade for this position is NC07. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase May result.
