Job TitleEnvironmental Health and Safety Specialist I Agency Texas A&M University Department Environmental Health & Safety Proposed Minimum SalaryCommensurate Job LocationCollege Station, Texas Job TypeStaff Job Description A Glimpse of the Job The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist I, under general supervision, provides specialized knowledge in the operation and support of assigned area within an environmental health and safety program. Essential Duties Inspections and Audits Performs routine tasks in any functional area with regards to environmental health and safety, often requires the use of a university vehicle Conducts routine construction inspections and semi-annual infrastructure inspections for compliance under the TAMU Stormwater Management Plan (SWMP) and helps ensure that contractors adhere to State and Federal Stormwater Rules Conducts compliance audits on the wastewater and water distribution systems Conducts routine hazard identification and risk assessments Provides verbal and written interpretations and compliance recommendations of Federal, State, and local environmental laws, regulations, programs and agreements to faculty, staff, students and contractors Environmental Programs Assists in developing plans and implements programs, such as creating social media and public outreach campaigns for stormwater, and training that ensure compliance with Federal and State regulatory requirements Submits or assists in preparing appropriate reports, permit applications, and/or inspection results as required by the regulations Assists with oversight for TAMU's environmental compliance with Clean Water Act (CWA), and Clean Air Act (CAA) and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Records & Reporting Performs basic reviews of inspections Prepare reports and submits as required by regulations and programs Assists in the implementation of an environmental management system for environmental compliance that will ensure each department of System component is maintaining an established standard of environmental performance Completes documentation in record keeping, permit applications, permit renewals and reporting on behalf of Environmental Health and Safety to state and federal agencies Emergency Response Responds with other EHS personnel to emergencies and assists emergency responders as needed Assists with maintaining equipment involved in emergency response What You Need to Know Salary: $21.73/hour Cover Letter/Resume: A cover letter and resume will assist us in our review of your application materials. Required Education and Experience Associate degree or equivalent combination of education and experience Two years of experience in an environmental health and safety or related field Required Licenses and Certifications Must have a Class C vehicle operators license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment. Preferred Qualifications Qualified Stormwater Inspector Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Training, Training or experience related to Clean Water Act, including TPDES permitting processes Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Working knowledge of environmental, safety, and health rules, regulations, and standards Knowledge of word-processing and spreadsheet applications Excellent verbal and written communication skills Ability to work independently Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others Physical Requirements Ability to tolerate moderate exposure to extreme temperature, dust, dirt, fumes, smoke, loud noises, and chemical substances.
