Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations. Responsibilities: Provides direction, organization, and management for the administrative and/or operational Department of Public Safety (DPS)departments to ensure day-to-day operational needs are met. Participates in the command decisions of the department. Coordinates the hiring, training, and promotion of department personnel. Assists senior leadership with the development of the department budget, ensures priorities are met, and coordinates inspections. Works with departmental staff to schedule all requirements of departmental operations. Assists in developing and maintaining communications with all clients. Assists DPS Senior Leadership with establishing and maintaining working relationships and partnerships with federal, state, and local law enforcement, community groups, and politicians to service the needs of the University. Serves as the secondary representative of the department with the ability to step in to cover during senior leadership absence. Ensures Public Safety performance meets the needs and expectations of users. Ensures adherence to all University policies, procedures, and activities crossing facility unit boundaries. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Plans, organizes, and directs activities of assigned staff responsible for the output of the department. Arranges contractual services for administration or operations and acts with respect to the resolution of public safety concerns or complaints. Ensures compliance with general, fiscal, and personnel policies, procedures, and guidelines. Follows Federal, State, and University regulations, codes, and guidelines. Prepares and implements capital renewal and building operating budgets. Works closely with other administrators and exercises budget control for assigned budgets. Reviews and analyzes control reports to identify and investigate significant deviations. Identifies possible trends and/or inconsistencies and delivers presentations and recommendations to the Director. Maintains necessary records to accomplish evaluations and appraisals. Maintains records for cost accounting and verification of billing. Prepares and submits management reports as required. Develops detailed project reports. Oversees tracking of the bidding process including specifications and related records. Takes corrective actions as appropriate.Assists DPS Senior Leadership with responding to and complying with legal notices and documentation preservation requests from University General Counsel relating to departmental matters. Through subordinate supervisors, introduces and maintains new methods and procedures, products, and equipment. Works closely with other University groups to provide technical assistance, review, and support of safety regulations or operational concerns. Provides materials necessary to support efficient and effective safety operations. Hires or makes recommendations on the hiring of the department staff, completes performance reviews and recommendations on promotions, salaries and other personnel matters. Consults and collaborates on recommendations for staff requirements, training, and staff development. Determines composition and organization of staff and assigns responsibilities. Handles grievances and ensures constructive labor relations. Coordinates with Deans, Directors, department heads, and others to ensure effective service levels and cooperative relations. Serves on various committees. Works closely with University departments concerning health and safety hazards and security. Acts as principal coordinator on facilities operations safety concerns.
