Job Description Summary Department - Transportation Job Description Job Type: Classified Job Classification: 5665 - Transportation Maintenance Specialist II Salary Grade: 9 Pay Range Hiring Range: $23.94 - $28.73 Per Hour Pay Range: $23.94 - $33.52 Per Hour Range Explanation: Hiring Range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity. Pay Range is the entire compensation range for the position. The Transportation Maintenance Specialist II performs advanced-level responsibilities maintaining transportation infrastructure and working independently as the department's expert in specialized maintenance tasks. This role requires technical proficiency and leadership in complex projects, distinguishing it from the Transportation Maintenance Supervisor, which oversees a full crew. Essential Functions: As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, this classification may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. Leads and/or participates in advanced or expert level duties to maintain and construct transportation infrastructure; Performs operational and preventive maintenance reviews of transportation infrastructure; Interprets and applies required codes or standards to work situations; Interprets complex blueprints, schematics and diagrams to facilitate work; Recommends to engineering, support staff and management, modifications to current infrastructure and systems to enhance operability, reliability and/or compliance with industrial or governmental standards or to enhance and protect transportation infrastructure; Acts as work center shift supervisor in the absence of the Transportation Maintenance Supervisor; Coordinates transportation infrastructure maintenance or construction with operations and maintenance staff, supported facility managers or end-users to assure minimal disruption of services; Conducts or coordinates specialized training for transportation maintenance staff in the systems being supported; Maintains comprehensive records of work performed, modifications to equipment or systems, and related operations logs; Prepares periodic and special reports for management on equipment, systems and/or facilities supported or maintained. Minimum Qualifications: Six years of journey-level advanced or expert level work experience in transportation-related construction and/or maintenance activities; OR: Three years of experience with Pima County as a Transportation Maintenance Specialist I or closely related position as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment. (Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.) Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies, specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.): Experience in public works infrastructure maintenance protocols. Experience with asset management systems. Experience with/knowledge of service request and work order processing. Experience communicating with multiple stakeholders in both written and verbal format. Selection Procedure: Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process. Supplemental Information: Licenses and Certificates: Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicants suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services review and approval of the candidates driving record. Some positions may require possession of a valid Arizona Commercial Driver License (CDL) with appropriate endorsement(s) at the time of appointment or prior to completion of an initial/promotional probation period. Positions requiring a CDL are also subject to applicable State of Arizona and federal standards, rules, and regulations on physical requirements including drug and alcohol testing. Failure to obtain / maintain the required licensure shall be grounds for termination Special Notice Items: The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County. This position will require a post-job offer physical and/or drug screen. Physical/Sensory Requirements: Positions may require any or all of the following: lifting and carrying up to seventy-five pounds or more; safely operating assigned vehicles and other powered equipment; wearing required safety clothing and equipment; working with or in the presence of obnoxious odors or with noxious / potentially hazardous chemicals, compounds or products; ascending and descending ladders and stairs to reach and work upon elevated or below-grade work platforms and job sites; differentiating, between colors. Frequently required to lift, push or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Other physical and sensory abilities will be determined by position. Working Conditions: Works outdoors in extremes of heat, humidity, dust, or cold; Other working conditions will be determined by position.
