Applicants will be contacted only when a position need is identified, and qualifications match the needs of the position. ** Starting Pay for: $22.00 - $29.00/hourly This is classified as VHNE (Variable Hour Non-Benefit Employee). This position does not provide medical benefits. This position earns sick leave in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act. Duties Performs semi-skilled and unskilled manual tasks and operates automotive and maintenance equipment to perform winter road maintenance functions. Assists in construction and repair activities on City streets and projects for the Public Works Department. Operates and maintains specialized vehicles, equipment and tools such as dump trucks with plow and sander to perform snow removal and other winter road maintenance activities. Shovels and tamps asphalt; loads and unloads tools; assists in the repair and maintenance of streets and performs additional duties as assigned. **ALL APPLICANTS MUST SUBMIT A CURRENT MOTOR VEHICLE REPORT AND HAVE A COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE CLASS B** MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS An equivalent combination of training, education and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Education: High School Diploma or GED Experience: 12 months of manual labor experience At least 6 months of related maintenance or construction experience. Knowledge: Knowledge of practices and techniques of assigned maintenance function is preferred. Abilities: Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time, outside and in all weather conditions Understand oral and written instructions Operate various types of maintenance and construction equipment Lift a minimum of 50 pounds repetitively Ability to work overtime Ability to respond within 30 minutes Ability to work twelve (12) hour shifts during emergency conditions (such as snow removal) on short notice Skills: Construction skills; skills in operation of heavy equipment. Licenses and Certifications: Certificates or Equipment Required: Colorado Class B CDL with a good driving record. Applicants must submit Motor Vehicle Record with their application to be considered. All selected candidates will be subject to the following pre-employment screening at the time of hire. Motor Vehicle/CDL review Criminal Background Check Drug Screening & Physical Exam Submittal of official transcripts of the most relevant/highest level of education Physical Demands: Heavy physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 50 pounds; frequent lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds Considerable walking and standing Frequent pushing, pulling, bending, stooping/crouching and climbing Considerable hand/eye and hand/foot coordination for operation of tools, equipment and vehicles Some speech communication to give information Vision to read manuals and gauges and operate equipment Hearing/listening for instructions and warning signals. Work Environment: Works primarily outdoors in both hot and cold weather with exposure to noise, dust, fumes and chemicals. Equipment Used: Operates a variety of hand and power tools and some heavy equipment common to construction and maintenance Operates vehicles such as dump trucks and tractors.
