Full Job Description

We are recruiting for a motivated Phlebotomist (Full Time) to join our team! We are here for lifes journey. Where is your life journey taking you? Department Laboratory Services Job Summary The Phlebotomist, under general supervision, draws blood for tests, transfusions, donations, or research that is utilized in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of physical conditions. May explain the procedure to patients and assist in the recovery of patients with adverse reactions. Essential Functions: Collection: Draw blood from veins by vacuum tube, syringe, or butterfly venipuncture methods; from capillaries by dermal puncture, such as heel or finger stick methods and from arteries, using arterial collection techniques. (40%) Laboratory Testing: Conduct standards tests, such as blood alcohol, blood culture, oral glucose tolerance, glucose screening, blood smears, or peak and trough drug levels tests. Transport specimens or fluid samples from collection sites to laboratories, documenting the route of specimens from collection to laboratory analysis and diagnosis. Provide sample analysis results to physicians to assist diagnosis. (20%) Equipment Maintenance: Monitors specimen collection devices to ensure proper operation. Organize and/or clean blood-drawing trays, ensuring that all instruments are sterile and all needles, syringes, or related items are of first-time use. Dispose of contaminated sharps, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and policies. (20%) Patient Advocacy and Support: Prevent unnecessary invasive phlebotomy and report patient concerns to appropriate care provider for immediate follow up. Monitor blood or plasma donors during and after procedures to ensure health, safety, and comfort. (10%) Training: May assist in training and teaching students, new staff or other medical personnel in phlebotomy or laboratory techniques. (10%) Education: High School Diploma or GED Required and Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program Certificate from a Phlebotomy or clinical Medical Assistant school Required or A minimum of 3 years of directly related phlebotomy experience may be accepted in lieu of certificate Required Work Experience: less than 1 year Six months of phlebotomy experience or 200 successful blood draws, preferred Licenses: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to remain calm in emergency situations Knowledge of laboratory terminology and equipment. Knowledge of safety and infection control practices to ensure a safe environment of care. Skills necessary to successfully perform phlebotomy in a variety of age groups. Ability to handle patient specimens and laboratory equipment. Familiar with regulatory compliance in quality control and competency requirements. Customer and Personal Service Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Good communication and customer relation skills to ensure patient safety and quality processes in the laboratory. Excellent organizational skills and detail-oriented work in identifying, accessioning, and handling specimens for processing and testing. Basic computer and hospital/laboratory information system skills Schedule: Various shifts (Days, Evenings, Nights).
