Full Job Description

Summary The Driver Class C (Scout and/or Backyard Service) is responsible for safely operating a pick-up truck paired with a hydraulic powered fork system and/or dump containers which are used to perform assigned duties on container pick-up, delivery, disposal, and recycling, of residential and commercial customers. This position is responsible for efficiently servicing assigned customers, while complying with all local, state, and federal transportation regulations and with Company policies. This role is intended to last between 12-48 months, depending on performance, skills development, and interest, and requires a commitment to enroll in and complete training to obtain a Commercial Drivers License CDL. Athens Education Assistance Program is available to assist those who need it with paying for the training through a forgivable loan program. An employee is expected to enroll in a CDL program by month 36 of employment. An employee must serve a minimum of 12 months and no more than a maximum of 48 months as a Scout before graduating with a Scout Graduation Certificate to become a CDL-Qualified Driver. For those who fail to obtain a Scout Graduation Certificate, the Scout role will conclude after 48 months. Job Description Maintains a safe and clean working vehicle. Performs pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle. Reports any unsafe situations or service calls before attempting service. Participates and cooperates in all scheduled training, briefings, and safety meetings. Works closely with Route Supervisors to improve route efficiencies & identify problem or unsafe accounts. Notifies Route Supervisor of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage. Reports blocked containers, potential missed pick-ups or problems that arise on the route. Communicates customer requests or issues to Dispatch or Route Supervisor. Completely dumps all containers and leaves the customers location clean and free of debris. Positions containers on the customers property in a correct manner during delivery. Extracts containers in a safe and efficient manner during route. Follows route assignments throughout the day and completes all documentation when checking-in. Provides a positive professional customer attitude when dealing with customers. Assists other drivers in completing routes as directed. Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED Valid Class C Driver's License. Able to provide exceptional customer service always. Time management skills. Able to follow through multiple challenges as they arise. Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations. Preferred Qualifications Age 21 and over Bilingual English / Spanish Work experience in the waste, environmental services, energy, or transportation industry. Clean Driving Record. Physical/Environmental Demands: Below are the key points concerning the physical requirements and work environment of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Physical: Bins may exceed 1000 pounds in weight. Please note that while bins have wheels for assisted movement, employees will be required to physically push, pull, and lift bins up hills and uneven terrain. Continuously grasping, bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, stretching, twisting, stooping, walking on uneven surfaces and lifting up to 75 lb. frequently. Frequent entry and exit from a pick up truck, up to 150 times daily. Able to work standing and/or sitting for long periods of time. Standing, walking, seeing, hearing, & smelling continuously. Problem solving, oral/written communication, analytical ability, concentration, & interpersonal abilities continuously. Eye/hand coordination, handling, & wrist motion continuously. Environmental: Exposure to dust, smoke, fumes, odors, grease, oil, chemicals, wet/hot conditions, & noise continuously. Works outside only. Working in Windy/Hot/Cold/Wet environments, working around heavy equipment, working among refuse and exposed to dusty conditions. Frequent exposure to traffic, being aware of all your surroundings, maintain a high level of communication with others.
