Job TitleCommunications Specialist III Agency Texas A&M University at Galveston Department Marketing & Communications Proposed Minimum SalaryCommensurate Job LocationGalveston, Texas Job TypeStaff Job Description A Glimpse of the Job The Communications Specialist III writes, edits, and assists in the production of informational and promotional materials, presentations and marketing events. This position develops and executes written and digital communications to enhance the visibility and reputation of the Galveston Campus. Responsibilities include researching, writing, and editing news releases, marketing materials, and special publications that highlight research, teaching, service, and student success. The role also involves maintaining an editorial calendar, creating content for print and digital platforms, and supporting a comprehensive, multi-channel communications strategy. Additionally, the position supports digital, social media, and public relations efforts by promoting stories across multiple platforms, assisting with event publicity, and coordinating media responses. The role contributes to increasing campus awareness through strategic storytelling, visual content, and brand-aligned messaging, while performing other duties as assigned. Essential Duties/Tasks: Research, Writing, Editing and Planning - Researches, writes and reports news for assigned topics, with special consideration to efforts directed to omni-channel utilization. Collects information and writes news releases documenting research, teaching, service, and current and former student success for distribution to media, internal and external audiences. Provides writing, editing and other content for special projects, including brochures, posters, pamphlets, magazines, and view books. Researches and analyzes industry trends and maintains knowledge of emerging technologies and creative techniques. Writes general content in collaboration with Division staff to support a multiplatform communications strategy. Supports the promotion of research activities, papers, and publications. Maintains editorial calendar for the Division. Provides writing for marketing materials, including brochures, pamphlets, magazines, digital newsletters, etc. Prepares presentations and displays. Digital and Multimedia Communications - Supports strategic and branded presences in social media. Assists in the promotion of stories with appropriate print and digital media. Supports integration of new media, including internal and external web and social media tools, to help increase visibility and awareness of the Galveston Campus. Aids in tailoring content specific to separate digital mediums. Media, Public Relations, and Other - Aids in planning and publicizing special events. Supports the Director of Marketing and Communication in responding to media inquiries. Supports Director in media appearances and assists in coordinating and presenting news conferences. Performs other duties as assigned. What you need to know Salary: Up to $60,000 annually. Compensation will be commensurate to selected hires experience. Required Education and Experience: Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Four years of writing and editing experience should set the candidate up for success. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in news media, public affairs and website writing. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to present information clearly and concisely. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of project management fundamentals. Proven knowledge of current social media platforms. Knowledge of current and emerging mobile production applications. Physical Requirements: Ability to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions, potential allergens, elevated noise levels, and heat Some lifting camera, phone or other marketing items. Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving and/or flying on commercial airlines Other Requirements and Factors: This position may require nights, weekends and occasional travel.
