Day (United States of America) Location Outpatient Services at 1440 N Dayton Job Description General Summary: Under the direction of the Charge Nurse, Manager/Manager Patient Care Operations and/or Unit Director, functions as a leader of milieu activities and supports clinical operations within the treatment team to achieve Unit goals and objectives. Knowledgeable and competent in identifying and intervening in patient crises. Provides consistent reports of patients progress to parent(s)/guardian and treatment team. Understands and integrates into the delivery of patient care the needs of pediatric and adolescent patients regarding their growth and development process. Essential Job Functions: Provides direct patient care in a therapeutic environment leading and co-leading milieu activities focusing on areas of behavior modification, improved social skills, improved effective coping skills, anger management, etc. Completes admission process including assessment and identification of learning needs of patients and families per program parameters. Assists in education and/or skills group as scheduled. Participates in the development and implementation of individualized plans and patient and family education with coaching, role modeling and reinforcing positive behavioral strategies using program specific tools and guidelines. Intervenes in anticipated emergency situations and knows emergency protocols maintaining safety in the milieu, utilizing prevention and de-escalation CCM interventions/techniques. Actively participates in rounds, treatment team meetings and case conferences as indicated. Sets and communicates age/developmentally appropriate individual goals, expectations and behavioral limits within the parameters of the program. Independently performs unit specific procedures, protocols and precautions and communicates changes in health or behavior to appropriate staff (charge nurse, primary therapist, physician, etc.). Completes duties as assigned by Charge Nurse, Manager and/or Manager Patient Care Operations including but not limited to assisting in ADLs, group therapy, recreational therapy, classroom and other therapeutic activities. Completes program documentation including patient/family education in the Medical Record as assigned. Supports clinical operations and decisions related to treatment plans. Responds to environmental concerns (maintenance/cleanliness) of the Unit. Actively participates/leads continuous quality improvement endeavors per program. Serves as a resource and role model for contingency staff and volunteers. Participates in area committees, task forces and/or special projects (i.e., developing or revising program procedures and protocols). Serves as Leader for one of the following: Certified Trainer for Crisis Management Program Lead Preceptor Member of Psychiatry Rapid Response Team Chair or Lead for Department Committee (i.e., Mental Health and Awareness Committee). Communicates clearly and openly within the program, department, interdepartmentally and with social service agencies Actively participates in staff meetings and in-services. Appropriately seeks out supervision to function in professional role and assumes responsibility for professional development through participation in continuing educational events, conferences, group supervision and in-services, etc. Other job functions as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Bachelors degree required in psychology, nursing, social services or other related fields. Minimum of three years of direct experience in a mental health setting, paid or unpaid, preferred. Must have strong knowledge of basic childcare and development, psychiatric disorders affecting children, signs of physical abuse/neglect, appropriate adult conduct towards all children including those with acute emotional/behavioral disabilities and/or disorders.
