You can learn about our benefits here: https://humanresources.baltimorecity.gov/hr-divisions/benefits Job Summary: The Fire Cadet position is a 12 18-month program that provides Baltimore City High School graduates between the ages of 17 and 20 the opportunity to become a full-time member of the Baltimore City Fire Department after successfully completing their Fire Cadet program. The Fire Cadet will participate in a departmental rotation where they will be exposed and acclimated to all aspects of the Baltimore City Fire Department. Cadets will receive mentorship pairing with fire personnel as well as career preparation workshops and Fire Academy readiness training. Essential Functions: 17-20 years of age (date of hire) Baltimore City Resident Pass a physical agility test Successfully complete a criminal background investigation Must have a Maryland Drivers License by completion of program Must maintain a clean-shaven appearance and good hygiene. Artificial hair color is not permitted. Hair extending below the collar must be gathered together and restrained between the shoulder blades and not visibly extend below the shoulder blades. Sideburns will not extend below the lowest part of the ear. Mustaches shall not extend below the corner of the mouth. Beards and Goatees are not permitted. Minimum Qualifications: Education: Have graduated from an accredited Baltimore City High School or General Education Development (GED) certified diploma recognized by the State Board of Education. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Strong work ethic and proactive critical thinking skills Ability to understand and follow simple written and oral instructions Physical fitness to include strength and cardiovascular Additional Information Background Check Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed. Probation All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
