VCA Big Lake Animal Hospital, located on the out skirts of Wasilla, AK is looking for Veterinary Assistants to join our 3-doctor General Practice! We need an experienced Veterinary Assistant who would like to provide excellent patient care with a focus on wellness and client education. This Veterinary Assistant would have 2+ years of experience in the field. Veterinary Assistants are responsible for preparing exam rooms for the doctors and assisting in providing care for the patients hospitalized in the treatment area. Schedule: Full time position. We are open Monday-Saturday, 8am-6pm, Some Saturdays required. We work a 4-10 flex schedule. Compensation: The pay range for this position is $21.00-25.00 / hour. As a member of the VCA Big Lake team, you will support the Technician and Doctor team by creating a positive, low-stress atmosphere for our clients and patients. Your mission will be to win the confidence of every pet parentby delivering an outstanding client experienceso we can provide exceptional care to every patient. The skills that will be utilized include, but are not limited to: Restraining and assisting in patient exams and routine procedures. Taking detailed medical histories and patient vitals. Filling prescriptions (as allowed by law). Performing laboratory work and diagnostic imaging. Maintaining medical records. Venipuncture and IVC placement Administer SQ fluids, medications, etc. Work in conjunction with all technical staff across the hospital to ensure hospitalized patients are receiving the best possible care and communicating frequently with the team. Recognize subtle change in clinical status. Discharge instructions with clients when they are able to bring their furry family member back home with them. Complete estimates, basic record keeping. Surgical preparation and assisting. Anesthesia monitoring. Dentistry and dental radiographs. Assisting our wonderful Doctor and Technician staff as needed.
